CDBG funds approved for housing and water projects in Steele, Carson, and Coleharbor

The Lewis & Clark Regional Development Council (RDC) Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) Scoring and Ranking Committee recently approved $311,678 in total funding for four projects in Kidder, Grant, and McLean counties.

The approval concludes the annual process where communities apply for funds through the CDBG program, which is provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Lewis & Clark RDC, which is part of Lewis & Clark Development Group, administers CDBG funds to local governments located in the Lewis & Clark RDC’s ten county region consisting of Burleigh, Emmons, Grant, Kidder, McLean, Mercer, Morton, Oliver, Sheridan, and Sioux Counties.

CDBG programs fund local community development activities with the stated goal of providing affordable housing, infrastructure development, and anti-poverty programs. Unlike categorical grants which are made for specific purposes, CDBG fund are largely used at the discretion of state and local governments and their sub-grantees.

Lyle Hogue, LCD Group community development coordinator, says this year’s awards will fund two multi-family housing rehabilitation projects and projects on two communities’ sewer and water systems. Funds were awarded to the following cities and projects…

City: Steele
Project: Prairie View Housing – multifamily housing rehabilitation project
Approved Grant Amount: $75,000

City: Carson
Project: Bahm Rentals – multifamily housing rehabilitation project
Approved Grant Amount: $75,000

City: Carson
Project: Carson Lagoon Repairs
Approved Grant Amount: $75,000

City: Coleharbor
Project: Coleharbor Water Storage
Approved Amount: $86,678

“These four projects are textbook examples of why the CDBG program was created and the needs it meets,” says Hogue. “The funds will go a long way in helping these communities.”
