Lewis & Clark Development Group will be receiving approximately $311,000 from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for 2021.
The long-running and successful federal program is provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
CDBG funds support local community development activities with a stated goal of providing affordable housing, anti-poverty programs, and infrastructure development. In contrast to categorical grants which are made for specific purposes, CDBG are largely used at the discretion of state and local governments and their sub-grantees.
Lyle Hogue, LCD Group community development coordinator, says the federal grants are awarded annually to states, cities, and counties on a formula basis.
“The funds are meant to update public facilities, infrastructure, housing rehabilitation, and community activities. But, over the years, we’ve been able to work within the guidelines to fund ADA upgrades, new emergency vehicle and equipment purchases, and strategic planning services,” Hogue notes.
LCD Group administers the CDBG program through Lewis & Clark Regional Development Council (RDC) to local governments located in Burleigh, Emmons, Grant, Kidder, McLean, Mercer, Morton, Oliver, Sheridan, and Sioux counties.
Last year, funds were awarded for projects in the communities of Linton, McClusky, Butte, New Leipzig, Carson, Steele, Glen Ullin, and Wing.
Hogue encourages municipal officials to directly contact him with any questions.
“Every community has needs and most have questions if they qualify. Give us a call and we can answer those questions and provide direction,” says Hogue who may be reached at (701) 667-7623 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
