LCD Group ‘proud to be a part of’ helping Kids In Motion expand

Kids In Motion, Inc. encountered a serious problem a few years ago. They were out of space.

Normally, that is a good problem for a small business to have — but not when you are serving children with physical, occupational, and speech therapy needs. The last thing you ever want to do is to turn families away.

Earlier this year, Kids In Motion moved into a newly constructed 11,000 square foot facility located at 1810 East Main in Mandan. The new facility was made possible thanks to a financing package designed by Lewis & Clark Development Group and Cornerstone Bank.

“There is a huge demand for our services. As we continued to serve children and understand the unique needs of our patients, it was evident that we needed to expand our services to give each child a unique and innovative therapy session,” said Dr. Kimberly Bloms, owner of Kids In Motion.

The new facility is more than double the size of its previous location, allowing Kids In Motion’s team of 20 therapists and staff to better serve children from birth to age 21.

LCD Group was able to provide two loans for Kids In Motion. An SBA 504 Loan helped financed new construction and new equipment purchases. Another loan through the CARES Act Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) helped finance the local match for the Bank of North Dakota’s Flex PACE Program interest buydown.

New Therapy Pool is Only One of Its Kind in Area

The SBA 504 Loan was critical in allowing the clinic to purchase and install a much needed therapy pool – the only one of its kind in Bismarck or Mandan.

“A true therapeutic aquatic environment should have an ambient temperature that is the same as the pool temperature,” explains Dr. Bloms. “This allows children with spasticity, rigidity, and muscle tone difficulties to be more comfortable and get the most out of their session.”

Dr. Bloms is very pleased the pool is private, something she says is very important to children and their caregivers.

“Aquatic therapy offers a unique and effective way to help children with a variety of physical, sensory, and developmental challenges. The buoyancy of water reduces impacts on joints. The resistance helps build strength, improve balance, and enhance coordination. The calming sensory input from water can benefit children with sensory processing difficulties, autism, and anxiety.”

With the new therapy pool, Kids In Motion is able to combine aqua therapy with play. “This is an invaluable tool for pediatric care,” adds Dr. Bloms.

LCD Group Made Kids In Motion ‘Feel Supported’

The clinic is a woman-owned small business and the first to provide outpatient care in Mandan.

Dr. Bloms learned about LCD Group’s financing options through her lender, Curtis Skaley, at Cornerstone Bank.

“There’s never a one-size-fits-all approach to business financing projects but, for Kids In Motion, the SBA 504 Loan checked every box for every need they had,” notes Ashley Hruby, LCD Group senior lending director.

“Using funds through the CARES Act RLF for the Flex PACE interest buydown really helps boost Kids In Motion’s cash flow,” says Matt Burthold, LCD Group commercial lending director. “The SBA 504 Loan and the RLF loan fit together perfectly.”

A Rewarding Project

Dr. Bloms is grateful for all LCD Group did to make her long-held dream for a new clinic become a reality.

“Working with Lewis and Clark Development Group has been an incredible experience. Matt, Ashley, and Chris truly went above and beyond to make the entire process effortless. They patiently explained everything, ensuring I fully understood the process, and always making me feel supported,” Dr. Bloms said.

More so than other projects, LCD Group’s small business assistance team felt a special sense of satisfaction in helping Kids In Motion.

“It’s rewarding to help clients who are making a difference in the lives of children and their families,” says Hruby. “This is a project we will always feel proud to have been a part of.”
