Legendary Meats benefits from SBA 504 Loan, helps owner make business dream a reality

Dan and Jessica Selensky moved to Center, North Dakota five years ago. Last year, Dan finally realized his long-held dream of putting his 26 years of experience as a butcher to work by working for himself.

The Selenskys started Legendary Meats, located at 600 Industrial Drive West, in early 2020. It didn’t take long for the Selenskys to build up a loyal clientele. Jessica estimates the business served more than 4,300 customers last year. Demand for its butchering and custom meat processing services is so strong, requests for slaughtering are booked out months in advance.

Legendary Meats employs three full-time employees who provide a critical service to area farmers and ranchers. It also offers the region’s residents with a retail shop that sells beef, pork, poultry, seafood, and specialty products not always found in small-town grocery stores.

The small business is now one of the millions of businesses across America to have benefited from the SBA 504 Loan program. The loan will help the Selenskys pay the costs for construction and equipment.

The SBA 504 Loan provides businesses, like Legendary Meats, with fixed-rate financing for the purchase of long-term assets. Proceeds can be used for the purchase of land, building, and equipment as well as to finance eligible closing costs.

There are three partners in every SBA 504 loan – the borrower, the lender, and the Certified Development Company. In this case, Union State Bank of Hazen was the lender who connected Legendary Meats with LCD Group.

“We are grateful to Union State Bank and Lewis and Clark Development Group. It was a long process but they walked us through everything, were knowledgeable, friendly, and always had our back,” said Jessica Selensky. “They helped make our business dream a reality.”
